Description

Burbondour is a Buddhist monastery located in Maglang, central Java, Indonesia, which is considered to be the largest Buddhist monastery and monument in the world. It was built in the 8th to 9th centuries and is a cubic with a circular structure focused on four main points. The building is solid and has no internal structure and is built around a natural hill and has ten terraces of stone with a staircase in the middle of each of them. The six lower terraces have a cubic design and four upper circular terraces. The walls are decorated with carvings, which relate to stories about the life of the Buddha's earth and its previous incarnations, especially the visible swaddling. The stony Buddha statues are also seated on each terrace, with a total of four hundred and thirty-two.
