Description

A large palace of royal buildings has been the official residence of kings in Bangkok, Thailand's capital, since the 18th century. The construction of this complex has been started since 1782 and has been continuously expanded.

When King Rama I chose Bangkok as the capital, he decided to build a new palace as the center of government and his residence. In this way, the construction of the Zarrin paradise began on May 6th, 1782 AD. Initially, a palace containing several wooden buildings in four corners of the defensive wall was 1900 meters long, with an area of over 218,400 square meters. Shortly afterwards, he ordered the construction of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha as a royal temple.

The numerous buildings of this palace were built during the First Rama, but later kings destroyed parts of it, renovated it, or destroyed new buildings. The palace is located on the west bank of the Bangkok River and is surrounded by a 1900-meter-long wall. On the other side of the wall is a canal that was built in the past to protect the palace against enemies and brought the area around the palace on the island.
